Chapter 10.12 ENFORCEMENT AND OBEDIENCE TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
Section 10.12.010 Authority of certain officials.
1. The city traffic engineer, the director of public works, the police chief,
and the fire chief are
authorized to make temporary regulations or install traffic-control devices to cover emergency or
special conditions. Such regulation or device shall be removed after the emergency or special
condition ceases to exist.
2. The city traffic engineer may test traffic-control control devices under
actual conditions of
traffic. No experimental traffic regulation shall remain in effect for a period of more than one
hundred eighty days.
3. Police officers are hereby authorized to direct all traffic by voice, hand
or signal in
conformance with traffic laws; provided, that, in the event of a fire or other emergency or to
expedite traffic or to safeguard pedestrians, police officers may direct traffic as conditions may
require notwithstanding the provisions of the traffic laws.
4. Firefighters, when at the scene of a fire, may direct or assist the police
in directing traffic
thereat or in the immediate vicinity. (Ord. 85/T-3504)
