Chapter 2.44 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Section 2.44.020 Definitions.
As used in the chapter the following terms shall have the following definitions:
1. "Commission". The Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission,
as established by this ordinance.
2. District. An area of contiguous pieces of property under diverse
ownership which meets the criteria
specified in Section 303.20, subsection 1, paragraphs a to f of the Iowa Code
as may be amended.
3. "Historic Site". A structure or building which
a. Is associated with events that have made a significant
contribution to the broad patterns of our
history;
b. Is associated with the lives of persons significant
in our past;
c. Embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type,
period, or method of construction, or that
represents a work of a master, or that possesses high artistic values, or that represents a significant
and
distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual distinction; or
d. Has yield, or may be likely to yield, information
important in prehistory or history.
4. Landmark: A building, object, property, site or structure designated by ordinance
of the City Council
pursuant to procedures described herein, that is worthy of preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration
because of its prehistoric, historic, architectural, or archeological or cultural significance to the
city, the
state or nation.
