Chapter 20.07 CONSTRUCTION IN FLOOD HAZARD AREAS
Section 20.07.020 Use of flood-resistant construction.
If a building site is in a floodable area as identified by the
Flood Insurance Study issued by the
Federal Insurance Administration, or in any other floodable area as designated by the city, all
new construction or substantial improvements (see Section 104(b) of the Uniform Building
Code), including placement of prefabricated buildings, which is below the base flood elevation,
shall be constructed with materials and mechanical equipment resistant to flood damage and
constructed by methods and practices that minimize flood damage. Where permitted by
ordinance or statute, the elevation of this site with infiltration-resistant fill, as certified by a
registered engineer or architect, for a distance of fifteen feet beyond the foundations of the
structure to an elevation above the base flood elevation along with the floodproofing of any
drains located below the base flood elevation shall be considered acceptable floodproofing. (Ord.
S-36983, 1978).
