Section 20.08.090 Applicability to new buildings and additions.
1. All new electrical work performed in new buildings must comply with all provisions of this code.
2. When a permit is issued for a new addition to an existing structure, the
inspector will inspect the new
work up to the point of connection to the existing electrical service only. Neither the inspector
nor the

EXCEPTION: If in the course of inspecting the new work, the inspector notices any existing unsafe or
hazardous conditions, the inspector will issue a written notice to the owner either recommending or
directing that repairs be made, depending upon the nature and degree of hazard.
3. Existing buildings to which new additions are being attached must also be
updated and brought into
compliance with this code when they are found to be unsafe due to any of the following:
a. Existing wiring has been improperly installed or
maintained. The existing wiring has been added to,
removed, or tampered with in a manner which creates an unsafe condition.
b. The existing electrical service is overloaded; overfused;
has been tampered with; or is, in any other
