Chapter 20.20 MECHANICAL CODE
Section 20.20.255 Authority to render and disconnect gas supply.
1. It is unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation, excepting an authorized
agent or employee of a
person, firm, or corporation engaged in the business of furnishing or supplying gas and whose service
pipes
supply or connect with the particular premises, to turn on or reconnect gas service in or on any premises
where and when gas service is at the time not being rendered.
2. The manager or the mechanical inspector or the gas utility is authorized
to disconnect any gas piping
or appliance or both which is found to not conform to the requirements of this code or which may be
found
defective and in such condition as to endanger life or property.
3. Where such disconnection has been made, a notice shall be attached to such
gas piping or appliance or
both, which shall state the same has been disconnected, together with the reasons therefor.
4. Such attached notice shall not be removed or shall either gas piping or appliances
be reconnected until
authorized by the administrative authority or gas utility to do so.
5. It is unlawful to remove or disconnect any gas piping or gas appliance without
capping or plugging
with a screw joint fitting the outlet from which the pipe or appliance was removed. All outlets to which
gas
appliances are not connected shall be left capped gastight on any piping system which has been installed,
altered, or repaired. (Ord. 2000-9735)
