Chapter 20.20 MECHANICAL CODE
Section 20.20.258 Fuel gas pipe - materials and methods.
1. Gas piping must be so constructed and installed to be durable, substantial
and gastight. All steel pipe
over two inches diameter, and all pipe, regardless of size carrying one psi or more for residential
projects
only, and up to five psi for commercial projects only, shall have welded joints and fittings between
the
connection at the meter and the appliance shutoff valve.
2. Service piping may be installed by licensed plumbing, ducted air or hydronic
heating/cooling
contractors only. Service piping must be routed to be accessible for maintenance.
3. Unions, tube fittings, running threads, right and left couplings, bushings
and swing joints made by
combinations of fittings may not be used.
4. An accessible shutoff valve must be installed in the fuel supply piping outside
of each appliance and
ahead of the union connection thereto, and in addition to any valve on the appliance. Shutoff valves
must be
located within three feet of the appliance. Such valves may be located immediately adjacent to and inside
or
under an appliance, when placed in an accessible and protected location, and when such appliance may
be
disconnected without removal of the valve. (Ord. 2000-9735)
