Chapter 20.28 STATIONARY AND REFRIGERATION ENGINEERS
Section 20.28.280 Third class stationary engineer.
1. New license application.
a. The applicant must submit a letter,
on company letterhead and signed by a holder of a
first class, second class or third class stationary engineer s license, stating that the applicant
has
been employed a minimum of one preceding year (2,000 hours minimum) and has regularly
performed the various tasks required in the operation and maintenance of hot water systems.
Credit for three months (500 hours) of work experience will be granted to the applicant who has
completed the Steam Plant One course at Western Iowa Tech or the equivalent course
at
another accredited educational institution. Credit for an additional three months (500 hours) of
work experience will be granted to the applicant who has completed the Steam Plant Two
course at Western Iowa Tech or the equivalent course at another accredited educational
institution.
b. The applicant must pay the required
license application fee.
c. The applicant must pay the required
examination fee to the council-approved testing
agency.
d. The applicant must successfully pass
a written examination administered by the council-approved testing agency.
e. The applicant must pay the required
license fee.
f. In the event an applicant cannot
meet the specific criteria stated in a. above, the board is
authorized to evaluate the application to determine whether the applicant has alternative training
and experience which are equivalent. Upon the board s affirmative evaluation of the alternative
training and experience, the applicant may be approved to sit for the exam.
2. License renewal, previous classifications.
a. Licenses granted by the city under
this chapter prior to the effective date of the ordinance
codified in this chapter will be reissued without additional examination or qualification in the
following manner:
(1) Holders
of licenses previously classified as Fourth Class Hydronic will be issued
Third Class Stationary Engineer s licenses upon request for renewal. (Ord. 2000-9646)
