Chapter 25.24 ESTABLISHMENT OF ZONES AND BOUNDARIES
Section 25.24.040 Annexed land.
1. Except as hereinafter provided, land which is annexed to the city shall upon
such annexation
be classified in the RE (Residential Estates) zone and remain so zoned until an amendment to this
title shall place such annexed land in a different zone or zones. The planning and zoning
commission shall review the zoning classification of any annexed land and shall report thereon to
the city council giving their recommendations as to the proper classification. The report shall be
submitted within six months of the effective date of the annexation.
2. A petition may be filed with the planning and zoning commission and the city
council
requesting a different zone classification so that when a parcel is annexed it will, immediately
upon annexation, be classified in a zoning district other than RE (Residential Estates). The
petition shall be acted upon by the planning and zoning commission and city council in the same
manner and with the same procedures as with any other amendment to the zoning map as
described in Chapter 25.12.
3. Such a petition may not be filed unless a petition for voluntary annexation
has been filed
with the city of Sioux City and the planning director determines that its eventual approval by the
city and state of Iowa is likely. The property in question must be specifically described, and the
proposed zoning classification upon annexation must be clearly stated. (Ord. 94/U-2060; S-30424,
1976)
