Chapter 25.58 BGM METROPOLITAN GENERAL BUSINESS ZONE
Section 25.58.020 Principal permitted uses.
Except as limited in Section 25.58.030 of this chapter the following principal uses are permitted as
of right
in the BGM zone:
1. Retail shopping establishments, as defined in Chapter 25.04 of this title;
2. Consumer service establishments, as defined in Chapter 25.04 of this title;
3. Business goods and service establishments, as defined in Chapter 25.04 of
this title;
4. Administrative offices, corporate headquarters and governmental or general
office buildings;
5. Universities, colleges, professional schools, technical schools and vocational
schools;
6. Public and quasi-public buildings, including those used for public service,
administrative, educational,
religious or cultural purpose, and eleemosynary institutions.
7. Combined retail and wholesale establishments, subject to the requirement
that there be not less than
one square foot of office, sales and display space for each three square feet of storage space in any
such
establishment;
8. Hotels and motels;
9. Public and private parking garages and parking lots;
10. Public and private passenger transportation terminals and facilities;
11. Child care center;
12. Buildings designed and intended for both business and residential use, provided
that in the event
residential uses occupy the ground floor, other than entrance the lowest point of any windows or similar
openings shall be a minimum of six (6) feet above the surrounding street grade as defined in Section
25.04.010 or the building shall be set back horizontally a minimum of six feet from the abutting right-of-way
lines;
13. Restaurants serving alcoholic beverages for consumption
on the premises, taverns, bars
and cocktail lounges including those with dancing or live entertainment;
14. Liquor stores;
15. Pawnshops, secondhand stores;
16. Recreation and amusement facilities, private or open to the public, including
health clubs, fraternal
lodges, residential and recreation clubs, courts for tennis, handball and similar games, swimming facilities,
billiard parlors, bowling alleys, amusement arcades, and indoor theaters and music halls;
17. Tire, battery and accessory stores with installation and minor automobile
repair;
18. Fire stations and ambulance stations.
19. Business incubators.
20. Bed and breakfast homes, subject to the following standards:
a. Minimum gross habitable floor area: 750 square
feet per rooming unit
b. Minimum total lot area: 5000 square feet
c. Screening: Parking lots for more than three vehicles
shall be screened from neighboring residentially
zoned or used properties. The screening shall be continuous, six feet in height, and shall consist
of a fence,
foliage or a combination of such materials.
21. Bed and breakfast inns, subject to the following standards:
a. Minimum gross habitable floor area: 500 square
feet per rooming unit
b. Minimum total lot area: 5000 square feet
c. Screening: Parking lots for more than three vehicles
shall be screened from neighboring residentially
zoned or used properties. The screening shall be continuous, six feet in height, and shall consist
of a fence,
foliage or a combination of such materials.
22.
Churches, synagogues, chapels and similar places of religious worship or instruction.
