Chapter 4.14 TEMPORARY OUTDOOR CIRCUSES, CARNIVALS, EXHIBITIONS AND SHOWS
Section 4.14.010 Definitions.
The following terms shall have the following meanings as used in this chapter:
1. Amusement Ride. "Amusement ride" means any mechanized device or
combination of devices which
carries passengers along, around or over a fixed or restricted course for the purpose of giving its
passengers
amusement, pleasure, thrills or excitement.
2. "Carnival" means and includes amusement activities; merry-go-rounds,
ferris wheels and similar types
of amusement rides; booths for the conduct of games of skill; food dispensing facilities; and sideshows;
which are temporarily conducted out-of-doors and not within a theater, auditorium, gymnasium or other
permanent building.
3. "Circus" means and includes an event with a variety of shows, including,
but not limited to, animal
acts, feats of physical skill and daring and performances by entertainers such as jugglers or clowns,
which is
temporarily conducted out-of-doors and not within a theater, auditorium, gymnasium or other permanent
building.
4. "Exhibition," "show" or "sideshow" means and
includes any public display of animate or inanimate
objects, or the public performance of a play or vocal or instrumental music, or the public performance
of
any game or sports activity, whether a fee is charged therefor or not, which is temporarily conducted
out-of-doors and not within a theater, auditorium, gymnasium or other permanent building.
5. "Health department" means the health department of the city, or
any district or regional health
department hereafter created to serve the city. (Ord. S-35530, 1978)
