Section 4.36.110 On-premises advertising signs located in RG-20 and RG-8 zones.

    1. Signs Allowed
        a. Signs not requiring a permit (4.36.050).
        b. On-premises advertising signs (4.36.020)(O-2).
    2. Sign Types Allowed.
        a. Wall signs
        b. One monument sign per street frontage unless otherwise provided for herein.
    3. Sign Area Allowed.
        a. Maximum sign area per sign –  50 square feet, but not greater than the cumulative sign areas specified in subsection b below.
        b. Cumulative sign area:
            Home occupation/occupant sign……………………..1 square foot
            Child care and boardinghouse……………………….6 square feet
            Multifamily…………………………………………16 square feet
            Schools, churches, public and semi-public uses……50 square feet
            Office and commercial uses………………………….2 square feet of sign area per lineal foot of street
                                                 frontage not to exceed one hundred square feet.
            In computing the square footage, no more than two street frontages may be used.
    Note: The area of monument sign structure for signs located in required front or corner side yard setback areas may be interpreted as part of the limited sign area if it is determined that the structure is part of the communication of the sign in which case, the area of the structure shall be limited to not more than 200 percent of the sign area.
    4. Height Restrictions.
        a. Monument signs shall not exceed ten feet in height.
        b. Wall signs shall not extend beyond the roofline of the building to which the sign is mounted.
    5. Setbacks.
        a. All signs are subject to the building setback requirements of the zone in which located except:
            (1) Monument signs must be set back at least five feet from front and corner side yard lines subject to corner site visibility standards set forth in Section 25.48.030(g).
            (2) Monument signs must be set back at least twenty-five feet from interior, side and rear lot lines when abutting a lot used as a residence.
    6. Additional Regulations.
        a. Signs may be illuminated but shall not flash or significantly illuminate neighboring properties. Time and temperature signs and message center signs are allowed.
        b. Signs shall not have moving, rotating or otherwise animated parts.
        c. No signs shall be located in, upon or over any public right-of-way unless said portion of the public right-of-way has first been vacated and proper authorization obtained through:
            (1) Acquisition of title, or
            (2) Acquisition of an easement, or
            (3) An encroachment permit under Chapter 17.28 of the Sioux City Municipal Code. Encroachment permits for signs are limited to wall signs as defined in Section 4.36.020. (Ord. 2004-0983; 84/T-2853)
