Section 8.04.025 Manner of Conveyance.

    1.  The word "gun" as used in Section 2 below shall include every kind of a gun or rifle and shall include those provided with pistol mountings which are designed to shoot shot cartridges.
    2.  No person, except as permitted by law, shall have or carry a gun in or on a vehicle on a public highway within the City limits, unless the gun is taken down or totally contained in a securely fastened case, and its barrels and magazines are unloaded.  
    3.  No person, except as permitted by law, shall have or carry any firearm or dangerous or offensive weapon, or any apparatus capable of propelling a missile, including but not limited to any air rifle or gun, CO2 rifle or gun, paintball gun or pistol, slingshot or bow and arrow, in or on a vehicle on the public highway within the City limits, unless such weapon or apparatus is taken down, dismantled, or totally contained in a securely fastened container and is completely unloaded of all ammunition, projectiles and/or missiles.
    4.  This section shall not apply to a person who for any lawful purpose carries or transports an unloaded pistol or revolver in a vehicle inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to be concealed on the person or any unloaded weapon or apparatus carried inside a cargo or luggage compartment where the apparatus, weapon, pistol or revolver will not be readily accessible to any person riding in the vehicle or common carrier.
    5. This section further shall not apply to any person acting in violation of any of the provisions contained within Chapter 724 relating to weapons free zones and school grounds or where state code provides a penalty greater than a simple misdemeanor. (Ord. 2008-0604)
