Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan is the “Sister City” of Sioux City, Iowa. As part of that relationship, there is a unique opportunity for the exchange of language teachers at the elementary school level.
The government of Yamanashi City, Japan is looking for candidates to fill the position of Assistant English Language Teacher. Job duties include assisting with language classes for each of the four elementary schools; providing instruction in introductory English; and participating in various school activities.
The potential candidate should possess the following qualifications:
An individual with an interest in Japan and a willingness to adopt the lifestyle of Japan while employed by Yamanashi City.
College graduate – a teaching certificate or equivalent experience is preferred.
Be willing to commit to a two-year term of service beginning August 2008 through June 2010.
Be a current or former resident of Sioux City Iowa.
Possess excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive relationships with others.
Be able to obtain a US passport and a Japanese working visa.
