Dave Mixdorf, South Sioux City Public Library Director, noted that the list includes two classics, two contemporary novels and one that is on its way to becoming a classic. Fahrenheit 451, A Lesson Before Dying and The Book Thief are themselves stories about reading. “We’ll build events and book discussions around the winning book,” explained Sioux City Public Library Director Betsy Thompson. “Our discussion leaders are preparing for any one of these. Election results and our 2010 program will be announced in December.” The goal of One Book One Siouxland is to share ideas and build community through the experience of reading and discussing the same book. Whether there is a movie tie-in this year will depend on which title is selected. Ballots are available at each public library; voters may download a ballot online at www.onebookonesiouxland.org.
