Maintenance cleaning of all the buildings at the plant is a large part of the duties on the Operations Staff. There are a total of eighteen buildings at the wastewater treatment plant that are continuously cleaned and maintained. In the year 2006, this work accounted for greater than 2000 hours.

One of the largest tasks at the facility is grounds maintenance. This location has a large expanse of territory to mow and maintain aesthetically. Operations personnel is responsible for duties maintaining plant grounds, including all mowing and trimming. This task is primarily accomplished during the first and second shifts. During the 2006 season there were more than 2500 hours devoted to grounds keeping.

There are eleven large in-ground process basins that are each emptied and cleaned of sediment and debris during the summer months. At this time all equipment is inspected, adjusted and repaired if needed. During the 2006 season there were 650 hours used doing this maintenance procedure.

Maintenance Department

The maintenance crew consists of a Maintenance Manager, four Maintenance Mechanics, an Electrician, and an Instrumentation Tech. A large part of the daily maintenance is inspection, operation and repair at the thirteen lift (pump) stations that are located throughout the City. Each week one mechanic is assigned to perform routine maintenance at each of these locations. That individual is also on-call 24 hours/day for any emergencies, either at the lift stations, or at the main plant.

A few major projects completed by the in-house maintenance staff over the past few months at the Treatment Plant included the installation of a new polymer make-down system with associated piping and controls, the removal of abandoned equipment from the Gravity Belt Thickener (GBT) building, demolition of laboratory cabinets, countertops, and analysis hoods, replacement of all electrical and plumbing in the lab and the installation of a new Positive Displacement pump for sludge pumping in the Digester Complex.
