Industrial Pretreatment

Inspections

All inspections were completed within the first two months of the year with all industries being approved by the Environmental Quality Manager. Each industry is sampled three times weekly for process monitoring and billing. Meetings are also held for each industry to aid in becoming more “wastewater aware” and updated on new technology.

Sampling Station Improvements

Since the implementation of the Industrial Pretreatment Program there was a standard set by the City of Sioux City and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. There was a City Ordinance adopted requiring each industry to contain a sampler, flow meter, sink with running water, a drain, a light source, and a suitable sampling station. In 2006, several industries were out of compliance with their sampling stations and required renovation or relocation. Several sampling stations were placed in areas that were not safe for a guest to endure, so they were moved per approval of the Environmental Quality Manager. Some of the other sample stations were ill-equipped with one or more of the items listed above. Each industry was given a compliance schedule by the City of Sioux City and the Environmental Quality Manager to follow for completion of their projects. Overall, 13 out of the 18 sample stations were either renovated or relocated per the approval of the Environmental Quality Manager.
