ABOUT CITY MANAGER PAUL ECKERT

Paul Eckert has been a member of the City of Sioux City staff since June, 1997 and serves as City Manager. Eckert earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration from California State University.

Prior to joining the City of Sioux City team, Paul served as Finance Director, Administrative Services Director, Assistant City Administrator, and Management Assistant in four California cities. Prior to his experience in local government, Paul served in the United States Marine Corps.

Paul directs the day-to-day operations of City government including Economic Development, Fire, Police, Finance, Public Works, Fleet & Transit, Administrative Services, Events Facilities, Human Resources, and Community Development Departments.

As City Manager, Paul proposes and manages the annual operating and capital budgets, manages the City organization and provides information and recommendations to the City Council.

Paul received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the premier local government leadership and management organization. He is the first area local government management professional credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

The City Manager has served the ICMA through speaking and facilitation roles at various conferences. Locally, he has been involved with efforts to streamline City services by 112 employees and improve services. He led successful State legislative efforts to establish new jobs assistance for local companies considering moving out of state, and has led many recent economic development projects.

Paul has also made significant contributions to a number of other organizations, including the Crittenton Center, American Cancer Society Relay for Life Honorary Chair, Vice President Siouxland Junior Achievement, Downtown Sioux City Rotary Club, and various youth coaching roles. He serves on several Siouxland Chamber of Commerce committees and is a graduate of the Sioux City Police Department Citizen's Academy.
