2019 Pooch Paddle

Post Date:08/12/2019 1:45 PM

Riverside Pool will host the annual Pooch Paddle on Monday, August 19 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for small pooches and Tuesday, August 20 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for large pooches. The event allows dogs and their owners an opportunity to cool off in the water before the pool is drained for the season. Small pooches must be at knee height or shorter, weigh less than 40 lbs., and attend the Monday session. Larger pooches may enjoy the pool on Tuesday. The cost is $5 per dog and all proceeds will be used to enhance the Sioux City Dog Park located in Bacon Creek Park.

City staff would like to remind citizens the Pooch Paddle event is only allowed in the public pool after it has been closed for the season. Chemicals remain in the pool to keep it sanitized and safe for furry users. Dog owners should not enter the pool past their waist. Riverside Pool will be drained shortly after the event.

All dogs must arrive on a leash and accompany an owner that is 14 years of age or older. All dogs must be licensed with the City of Sioux City if they live within the City limits and tags must be worn at all times (see red hydrant tag pictured below). Only pit-bulls that are legally registered and licensed with the City of Sioux City will be allowed. Dog owners that live outside of the Sioux City limits must bring a copy of their dog’s updated shot records and tags. Dogs without tags and dog owners with multiple dogs will not be allowed to enter the facility. All pet owners must comply with City rules and regulations relating to disposal of animal waste. Dogs are prohibited from attacking persons or animals in accordance with Sioux City Municipal Code Section 7.08.020, found online at

All dog handlers are responsible for their dog’s actions and must follow all applicable provisions of the Sioux City Municipal Code.
