Social Media Deep Dive – Stay a Step Ahead of Your Kids

The Sioux City Human Rights Commission and The Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking and will host a presentation titled "Social Media Deep Dive"  on September 23rd at the Sioux City Public Museum from 6:00PM to 8:30PM.

Guest presenter Lisa López of Omaha Nebraska’s “Set Me Free Project” will discuss how to keep children safe on social media. Some of the topics addressed will be; how to help your child safely navigate social media and gaming platforms, current apps - the good, the bad, and the ugly, what the grooming process is and how predators use social media to groom our kids, what social-media acronyms parents must know, our kids’ brains on social media: the science of social media, how does social media affect kids, sexual images and social media, privacy laws and our kids' phones, and how to communicate with your child/teenager.

Lisa López is an educator from the South Texas - Mexico border. She received her BA in Cultural Anthropology from Texas A&M University. Her experiences have allowed her to live in China, Germany, Italy, and all over the Central and Western United States. She strives to promote human dignity by reminding people of their self-worth through compassion, understanding, and respect - all traits which oppose the techniques of sex traffickers. The “Set Me Free Project” specializes in youth, young adult, community, and social services training for the education and prevention of human trafficking.  

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Sioux City Public Museum, 607 4th Street. The event is sponsored by the Sioux City Human Rights Commission and the Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking. The event will begin at 6:00PM and will include a light meal.
