Tree Planting Event with Earl May Seed and Nursery at Grandview Park
Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to invite the public to attend a tree planting event at Grandview Park on October 22, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. As part of Earl May Seed and Nursery’s 100-year Anniversary, Earl May is donating and planting three Bloodgood Sycamore and three Black Gum trees at the park.
Community partners like Earl May are a tremendous asset to the City and our community. The tree planting event at Grandview Park will benefit park users and the surrounding residential area. Earlier this year, Sioux City was again awarded the distinction of being a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for being committed to effective urban forest management. The trees selected are ideal choices for the area as they grow rapidly, thrive in any soil condition, are resistant to diseases, and can adapt to extreme climates both wet and dry.
Earl May Seed and Nursery was founded in 1919 by Earl E. May in Shenandoah, Iowa. Now in its 4th generation of family ownership, Earl May operates 28 garden centers in Iowa, including 2 in Sioux City. Earl May has a large distribution center, production operation, and growing area in Shenandoah and operates a second growing area in Sioux City.
