Iowa Judo State Championships in Sioux City

The Sioux City Judo Club will host the Iowa State Judo Tournament at the Long Lines Family Recreation Center, 401 Gordon Drive, on Saturday, December 9, 2017.  No spectator fee will be charged, so the tournament is a fun opportunity for community members to learn about the exciting Olympic sport of judo.

Judo is an exciting, dynamic sport involving throws and pins for children and including chokes and joint locks for adults. Competition will take place in children’s technique, forms (kata) and fighting (shiai) for all ages.  Shiai divisions include categories for boys and girls, novice adult competitors, older adult competitors (over age 30) as well as open rank competition for men and women. Competitors must pay an entry fee and be a member of USA Judo, the United States Judo Federation or the United States Judo Association.

Event Schedule

Registration and weigh-in 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. 
Kata and Junior Technique competition 10:30 a.m.
Junior and Master’s Shiai Immediately following Kata and Junior Technique 
Senior Shiai Immediately after Junior and Master’s Shiai

The Sioux City Judo Club, a Parks and Rec. program, is hosting the event.  Club instructors are Karen Mackey, sixth degree black belt, and Kien Sek, first degree black belt.
