2018 One Book One Siouxland
Inspired by this year’s title, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, the 2018 season of One Book One Siouxland hosts inspiring and educational events through the month of April that explore topics and themes found in the book.
Hidden Figures is the phenomenal, and until now, overlooked true story of an exceptionally talented group of African American female mathematicians who participated in some of NASA’s greatest successes. Shetterly passionately brings to light the story of these pioneering women through this well-researched history, drawing on personal anecdotes and material from those who lived it.
Featured events include visiting with Ruth Jones, Ph.D. from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center at WITCC on Thursday, April 5 at 10:30 AM; a night of live storytelling with ODE that passes the mic to the trailblazers, change-makers, and underdogs of Siouxland at The Marquee on Friday, April 6 at 7:00 PM; and hearing from Siouxland women who have shattered the glass ceiling in a variety of fields once dominated by men at Morningside College on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 PM.
One Book One Siouxland is a community-wide reading initiative that brings residents together through the shared experience of one great book.
