Pioneering Local Journalist Featured

Post Date:03/13/2018 10:55 AM

In honor of Women’s History Month, step into the world of one of Sioux City’s earliest female reporters at History at High Noon: Pioneering Journalist Ruby Westenhaver on Thursday, March 15 at 12:05 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lunches to this free program at the Sioux City Public Museum.

In the 1920s, female journalists were largely relegated to the society pages. With a few stand-out exceptions, they were writing soft news, only dealing with subjects deemed "appropriate" for women. This was not the case with Ruby Westenhaver (later Hintgen), reporter for the Sioux City Journal. Presenter Haley Aguirre, Archival Records Clerk, will uncover the stories written by a local pioneer for women in journalism.

The Sioux City Public Museum is located at 607 4th Street in downtown Sioux City.  For more information, call 712-279-6174 or visit www.siouxcitymuseum.org.
