Big Sioux River Trail Ribbon Cutting
The Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite the public to a ribbon cutting event for the Big Sioux River Trail extension located at Riverside Park, 1301 Riverside Boulevard (near the Riverside Aquatic Center) on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
The Big Sioux River Trail extension will become part of the City-wide trail system. The new trail segment has been constructed from Riverside Park at the Aquatic Center north to Florence Avenue and Boies Street. “The City was very fortunate to receive support from the Siouxland Trails Foundation. From their generous donation, we were able to complete this important trail connection that has been one of the “missing links’ in our trail system. Users will now be able to travel from the Riverfront to River Drive. This trail connection project is just another example of how community partners play an important role in providing quality programs and amenities to our community,” stated Matt Salvatore, Parks and Recreation Director.
The Ribbon Cutting event will include a memorial bench installation in memory of Mr. Brian Goetz an avid cyclist, trail enthusiastic, and Siouxland Trails Foundation member. Mr. Goetz bequeathed the donated funds to the Siouxland Trails Foundation to be utilized for the construction of a new City trail project.
The Big Sioux River Trail segment connects to the existing Riverside Park Trail to the existing Big Sioux River Dike Trail and will provide approximately 7 miles of continuous trail from the Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Trail at Floyd Boulevard to River Drive.
