Cone Park Receives State Tourism Award

The Iowa Tourism Office and the Travel Federation of Iowa presented 27 awards at a ceremony held February 7, 2019 in Altoona at the 2019 Iowa Tourism Conference recognizing excellence in the tourism industry. At the ceremony, Cone Park was presented with the 2019 Outstanding Attraction Award in a metro area.

Awards were given to both metro and rural areas in 13 award categories. The Outstanding Attraction Award recognizes an attraction that cultivates and enhances tourism in Iowa, as well as, shows originality and creativity. Cone Park was selected based on how the project exhibits innovation by developing a new tourism market and how the park supports the Iowa tourism industry as a whole.

Matt Salvatore, Parks and Recreation Director, attended the ceremony to accept the award, sharing, “This award reassures what we already know about Cone Park, it’s been a great thing for Sioux City.”

The annual Iowa Tourism Conference brings together nearly 250 industry representatives from across the state. Tourism in Iowa generates more than $8.5 billion in expenditures and $507 million in state taxes, plus employs 69,600 people statewide. The Iowa Tourism Office is part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
