Art Center Presents Annual Collaborative Project with Briar Cliff University
The Sioux City Art Center announces a reception on Thursday, April 25 to celebrate its new exhibition, The Briar Cliff Review Exhibition. The exhibition features artworks that were selected for volume 31 of The Briar Cliff Review, an annual journal of essays, poetry, and the visual arts published by Briar Cliff University. The free reception, with complimentary food and beverages, will occur 6:00-8:30 p.m. As a special treat, several of the exhibiting artists will speak about their work at 6:30 p.m., followed by readings by a selection of writers at 7:00 p.m. The reception will also mark the release of The Briar Cliff Review, copies of which will be available for purchase at the event.
The selections of the artworks included in this exhibition have been made through a collaborative effort between Jeff Baldus, associate professor of art at Briar Cliff University, who serves as the art editor of The Briar Cliff Review, and Todd Behrens, curator of the Sioux City Art Center. They review a large number of works created by artists who help shape the cultural landscape in our area and beyond. In general, the artists represented in the journal and this exhibition are either active professional artists living in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, or they are art students at Siouxland colleges and universities. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media artworks. Specific artworks are selected to showcase the breadth of ideas and styles behind much of the best art produced recently in the region. In this important way, the mission of both the Sioux City Art Center and The Briar Cliff Review align perfectly.
The exhibition will remain on view through July 21, 2019.
