Sioux City Public Library’s Morningside Branch Reopens

Post Date:05/29/2019 4:43 PM
The doors to the Morningside Branch Library open to the public on Monday, June 3 for the first time since closing for major renovations back in October. A grand reopening event will follow a couple of weeks after on June 14 to celebrate the exciting improvements that have been made.

“You’ll notice when you first walk in that in addition to being brighter and much more welcoming, the floor plan has changed,” said Helen Rigdon, Library Director. “The function of the space is improved with the new layout, and we’re pleased to have been able to add amenities such as a small conference room and small study room to the redefined space.”

The children’s area is expanded and now sits in the northwest corner of the Library with a view of Peter’s Park out the windows. The addition of a sensory wall and toys make this area more interactive. The computer lab is now more defined and occupies the space just inside the doors. The Check Out desk shifted to the center of the Library, and where it once sat, visitors can now enjoy browsing through staff recommended reads and just released titles.

Library staff welcomes visitors back to the Morningside Branch Library to explore the many changes and get acquainted with the new space. During the grand re-opening week for the Morningside Branch Library (June 10 – June 15), patrons can visit any of the Sioux City Public Library locations to have overdue fines forgiven as the Library celebrates a fresh start for its Morningside Branch.

Grants from Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust and Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD), as well as donations from Security National Bank, Friends of the Sioux City Public Library, and the Sioux City Public Library Foundation helped fund the cost of the Morningside Branch Library renovation.
