Partnership Promotes Bike Safety

Post Date:06/07/2019 10:00 AM
Opportunities Unlimited is pleased to announce the renewal of the summer partnership with the Sioux City Police Department and Dairy Queen, called "You've Been Ticketed."   This program is an extension of Opportunities Unlimited's brain injury prevention program called "Gotta Brain....Getta Helmet" that strives to educate children and provide the safety equipment they need to protect themselves. This is the fifth year for the partnership, and we are grateful to the Sioux City Dairy Queens for providing the free-treat coupons once again!

Police Officers and Volunteer Trailblazers from the Sioux City Police Department will be handing out "tickets" for a free treat donated from our participating Sioux City Dairy Queens to children who are wearing their bike helmets this summer.  The Police Department is grateful for their partnership with Opportunities Unlimited and Dairy Queen to reinforce the importance of wearing bicycle helmets to be safe and avoid traumatic brain injuries.

The Sioux City Police Department is also looking for new volunteers to assist on the bike trails and has 10 mountain bikes available for the volunteers to use if they would like, and each volunteer is given a new bike helmet.  Volunteer Coordinator, Rita Donnelly, comment-
ed, "We are looking for additional volunteers to help provide a friendly presence on the bike trails, (and hand out "tickets") so if anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer for the Police Department, they may call us at 712-279-6424".
