Public Works Director, David P. Carney, P.E., CDT, returned to Sioux City on March 7, 2016. David is a licensed professional engineer in Iowa and Michigan. Prior to his return, he served as the Monona County Engineer for 7 years. During his tenure at Monona County, the County received a Gold Award for Excellence in Concrete Pavement from the American Concrete Pavement Association.
David was a Senior Civil Engineer for the City of Sioux City from 2003 until 2009. During that time, he served as the City’s Traffic Engineer, and managed several key City projects including the Outer Drive Connection Project, Hamilton Boulevard Traffic Signal Interconnect, and several street reconstruction projects.
Before coming to Iowa, David was a Project Engineer for the City of Rochester Hills, Michigan. As a Consultant with Giffels-Webster Engineers, he also served as the Township Engineer for Lyon Township, Michigan and the City Engineer for the City of Lathrup Village, Michigan. David Carney is a 1993 graduate of the University of Detroit and was the University’s Chi Epsilon Award winner for Outstanding Civil Engineering Student that year.
Mr. Carney oversees the City’s Engineering Division, Parking Division, Fleet Operations and the Streets Division, including Traffic Operations.
