Mark Simms joined the City of Sioux City as the Utilities Director in September, 2015. In this position, Mark is responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Water Treatment Plants, the Environmental Services Division, and Underground Utilities.
Mark has over 35 years of operations experience in the water and wastewater fields. Mark’s most recent position was as Program Chair and Associate Professor at Des Moines Area Community College’s Water Environmental Technology Program. Mark has also worked in Algona, LeMars, Cherokee, and with the Iowa Rural Water Association. Additionally, he has worked for an engineering firm and has owned and operated a small wastewater consulting firm.
Mark holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Grantham University, and several certifications including: a Grade IV Wastewater Certification, Grade IV Wastewater Collection Systems Certification, and a Grade II Water Treatment and Water Distribution Certification. Mark is also, proudly, a veteran of the Army National Guard, Naval Reserve and the Air National Guard having served for over 25 years.
