In 2001, the youth of Sioux City expressed their desire for an exciting new activity known as disc golf. The Mayor's Youth Commission members were very receptive to this idea and decided to begin plans for the construction of a disc golf park. With the assistance of local businesses and volunteers, as well as the City of Sioux City, the members worked on this project from the planning stages through completion. The nine-hole Sioux City Mayor's Youth Commission Disc Golf Course opened in the summer of 2002.
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. A player begins by throwing the disc from the tee off box toward the hole. The player continues throwing the disc several more times until it is in the "hole", which is an above the ground basket.
The Disc Golf Course is located at Sertoma Park in Morningside by the big blue water tower.
