The Building and Housing Code Board advises the City Council in matters relevant to the safe and appropriate construction and maintenance of all buildings and dwellings in the City. The Board reviews licenses for hydronic engineering applications. The Board periodically reviews the local building and housing codes and recommends improvements. The Board hears citizen appeals of decisions or code interpretations which have been made by Inspection Services Division. The members of the board consists of nine persons who hold no office or employment for the City of Sioux City and meet the criteria defined below.

  • One member shall be a licensed architect, registered in the State of Iowa.
  • One member shall be a licensed structural engineer, registered in the State of Iowa.
  • One member shall be a landlord of more than one rental dwelling in the city.
  • One member shall be a homebuilder engaged primarily in the business of new home construction.
  • One member shall be a commercial general contractor.
  • One member shall be a licensed electrical journeyperson, master electrician, or electrical contractor.
  • One member shall be a citizen-at-large having no financial interest in the housing or building construction industries.
  • One member shall be a licensed plumbing, journeyperson, master plumber, or plumbing contractor.
  • One member shall be a licensed master HVAC technician or mechanical contractor.
