SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER
The City of Sioux City Housing Authority has an annual contributions contract to assist up to 1,221 households within its budget authority, with rental assistance in Sioux City, IA city limits. The participating family chooses a decent, safe, and sanitary rental unit in which to reside. If the landlord agrees to lease the unit to the household under the Section 8 HCV Program, and SCHA approves the rental unit, the Housing Authority will make monthly housing assistance payments to the landlord to help the household pay their rent each month. Participating households pay a minimum of 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities.

APPLICATION PROCESS: SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER
The current waiting period is: 12-18 months (subject to change)
After receipt of the application with the required documents, applicants are placed on a waiting list. Wait time is dependent on how many participants leave the program each month, funding availability, and the date and time of application. When they reach the top of the waiting list, a verification packet is completed by the applicant. After the screening process is finished, if the applicant is approved, a Housing Choice Voucher will be issued at a briefing where all adults must attend. When the participant locates a rental unit, an inspection is then conducted upon receipt of the request for lease approval.

FAMILY SELF SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (FSS)
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program available to Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participants. The purpose of the program is to assist families in improving their economic situations and reducing their dependence on welfare programs.
VASH
The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Voucher Program combines HUD Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Rental Assistance Program for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Veterans Affairs (VA) at its medical centers and in the community. Currently, the Sioux City Housing Authority has 40 HUD-VASH vouchers. The case managers at the VA are responsible for accepting applications and referring eligible homeless veterans to Sioux City Housing Authority. Therefore, any interested homeless veteran will need to contact the VA office directly. SCHA has no role in determining or verifying the veteran's homeless status.
