The Section 8 HCV Program is not an emergency housing program.
Preference Offered
Currently, the demand for housing assistance in Sioux City exceeds our program's resources. This means that qualified applicants are placed onto our waitlist. SCHA recognizes the federal preferences for:
- Applicants who have been involuntarily displaced through no fault of their own (like floor or fire).
OR
- Those who need to move to avoid reprisals (like someone in a witness protection program).
SCHA has established some local preferences for applicants including:
- Those who have had Permanent Supportive Housing Residency for at least 2 years.
OR
- Have been a Rapid Rehousing Participant for at least 3 months (Less if RRH provides at least 3 months of case management).
- Those who are employed (average 20 hours/week for the past 6 months) or going to school (full time).
- Applicants who are disabled or elderly (62 years or older).
- Those who live, work, or have been hired to work or physically attend school in Sioux City, Iowa city limits, Woodbury or Plymouth County, Iowa; Dakota County, Nebraska; or Union County, South Dakota.
- Homeless Families with School Aged Children (Restricted to Referrals ONLY).
Applicants who receive one or more of these preferences will move ahead of those with no preferences on the waiting list.
We contact people by mail when they are at the top of the waiting list. Periodically, we may also contact people by mail to update information on our waiting list. It is very important that we have a CURRENT MAILING ADDRESS FOR YOU AT ALL TIMES. Your mailing address must be updated in writing.
