2024 Pet License Fees

Neutered or Spayed Dog: $15 per pet
Non Neutered or Non Spayed Dog: $50 per pet

Neutered or Spayed Cat: $15 per pet
Non Neutered or Non Spayed Cat: $31 per pet

A late penalty of $15 per license will be added to the original fee when a license is renewed after March 1st, the late penalty increases to $20 after April 1st, and increases to $25 after May 1st.

Pet owners may renew or get new Pet Licenses at the Customer Service Center, 405 6th Street; Sioux City Animal Adoption & Rescue, 2400 Hawkeye Drive; or participating veterinarians. All pet licenses are valid for one (1) year and expire on December 31st of the license year. Pet owners must provide proof of current rabies vaccination before the license will be issued or renewed.  You may call 712-279-6132, Option 1, to renew.

Excess Domestic Animals Permit (EXAP)

Read below to see if you are required to obtain an EXAP.

The total number of pets allowed per City Code is three (3) per residential unit, but no more than two of the same species.

No Permit Required:  You own one (1) dog and two (2) cats or you own two (2) dogs and one (1) cat.

Permit Required :  You own three (3) dogs or more or you own three (3) cats or more.

All dogs and cats  must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed by the City before the permit can be issued. The Excess Animals Permit is valid for two (2) years from the date issued.
