Keeping our city beautiful is a top priority. You can help by picking up trash when you see it! The best and most impactful place to start is in your neighborhood. You're also encouraged to participate in the city's current litter initiatives.
This annual city-wide event encourages participation by local businesses, schools, and residents to spend a few hours to help clean up highly visible areas throughout the community. Visit the Litter Dash webpage for more information on how to sign up.
The 26 on 26 anti-litter campaign through the Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership (ISWEP) promotes litter-free behavior by asking everyone to pledge to pick up 26 pieces of litter on the 26th of every month through 2026. Locate additional information on the ISWEP 26 on 26 webpage.
In an effort to help reduce the amount of trash polluting our streams, lakes, and rivers, an anti-litter initiative has been coordinated by the Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership (ISWEP). The 26 on 26 campaign encourages you to pledge to pick up 26 pieces of litter on the 26th of every month through 2026.
This is a long-term campaign to bring about behavioral change. The time it takes to pick up the litter around you can be minimal but will have a positive impact on the community. The campaign in 2026 will be 26 on 26, in 2027 it will be 27 on 27, and so forth.
To help encourage participation, supplies (i.e. garbage bags and gloves) are available for litter pick up efforts.
