We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, flexible spending accounts (dependent care & health care), basic & supplemental life insurance, long term disability and a variety of retirement options.  As an employee of the City, you will also be a participant in IPERS.  Most benefits become effective 1st of the month following 15 days of employment.   


 Health_Insurance   time


We have medical/Rx coverage available to all full-time employees.  Our plan is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan administered by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  For specific information on what is covered and how, please review the Summary Plan Description.



We have a comprehensive dental plan administered by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  Preventive, Basic and Comprehensive services are covered under the plan along with Orthodontia.  Please see the Summary Plan Description for more details.  (Note:  The first plan year benefit is $500/person; each subsequent year is $1,200/person)



We have partnered with Avesis to provide affordable vision coverage for our full-time employees.  This coverage allows you to get an eye exam and purchase glasses and/or contacts at a significant savings.  It also provides discounts for other services such as Lasik.  Review the Summary document for further details.


Flex Spending Accounts

Employees have the option to set aside money, pre-tax to pay for eligible medical and dependent care expenses.    Accounts are established with Innovate Business Consultants (IBC) and there are multiple reimbursement methods available.  


 Life Insurance

Full time employees receive a basic life insurance benefit at no cost to them.  You also have the option to elect additional supplemental life insurance for yourself.  (Amounts determined by contract/manual)  You can see all of the Life Insurance Certificates here.


Long Term Disability

Most full-time employees receive a Long Term Disability benefit provided at no cost.  This coverage provides income protection in the event of a major, long-term medically-related absence from work.  You can see the Long Term Disability Certificates here.


 Retirement Options

City employees enjoy the benefits of IPERS/MFPRSI and we also have several options under our 457(b) Deferred Compensation  plans.  The City provides a match to contributed funds to increase your retirement savings potential.  Please refer to your contract or manual for specific information on the City match.



 Wellness goes beyond diet and exercise and we recognize that here at the City of Sioux City.  We have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by Carebridge.  They can assist with a variety of life's challenges.  We also have a Wellness Committee that meets to plan events and activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
