Calling Iowa One Call at 811 or 1-800-292-8989 can help prevent damage to infrastructure or injury during your next excavation project.
When to Call
Anytime you plan to excavate. Whether it's a small or a large construction or homeowner project you must call at least 48 hours (NOT COUNTING WEEKENDS AND/OR LEGAL HOLIDAYS) prior to excavating.
Iowa law applies to both contractors and homeowners, and encompasses many outdoor projects to include, but not limited to:
- Installing a fence
- Installing a clothes line
- Planting a tree or shrub
- Building a home, addition, deck or foundation
- Installing or replacing a driveway
- Installing a septic system or making repairs to an existing one that requires digging
- Installing any underground piping
What We Mark
We will only mark City owned water mains, sanitary sewer mains, and storm sewer mains. We cannot trace the sanitary sewer mains or storm sewer mains between manholes, we can only mark their direction as they leave the manhole. We do not mark sanitary sewer service lines. The water service lines are owned by the property owner, but we will mark them as a courtesy to the excavator. DO NOT USE IOWA ONE CALL TO LOCATE YOUR CURB STOP SO YOU CAN SHUT YOUR WATER OFF.
