Sioux City's water is considered hard because it comes from deep underground formations.
Typical hardness levels range from 350 mg/L to 550 mg/L, depending on which wells are in use.

Installing a Water Softener

If you plan to install a water softener, follow these recommended settings:

Residential Softeners

• A good starting point is to set your softener at 24 grains per gallon, then adjust to your individual liking.
• The iron setting should be .002 mg/L

Commercial & Industrial Softeners

• For larger systems, contact the Water Department for the most current hardness data.
