Adopt A Street Sign Sioux City

If your family or organization is looking for a community service project, why not consider adopting a street and picking up litter within the corporate city limits of Sioux City? Your volunteerism will enhance the appearance of areas throughout the city.

Typically, it works well to pick up trash three times per year – once in the spring, summer, and fall. Naturally, trash pick-up more frequently enhances the appearance of the areas, and groups should feel free to do it as often as they like. Signs will be placed on the section of street your group adopts so our community will know who has taken pride in our city and put forth the extra effort to keep things looking great.

Because this is a volunteer effort, no demands are placed on the adopter of streets. We only ask that if your group no longer wishes to take part in this community service project, let the Environmental Division know so another organization can be sought to take over the litter removal.

The City will provide garbage bags, safety vests, and gloves to the groups who adopt a street. The garbage bags (along with tires or other items picked up) can be left along the roadside, and City employees will dispose of the trash. Arrangements should be made with Field Services/Street Division (279-6886) or Environmental Division (279-6222) to pick up the garbage bags and vests a few days prior to the group collecting litter.  Once your litter is collected, please notify Field Services/Street Division (279-6886) or Environmental Division (279-6222) to collect those full trash bags and debris.

For more information or to volunteer to provide litter pick-up along any of the above listed areas, please call Environmental Services at 712-279-6222.
